Leaning further to the direction of modularity, Protean is a highly-configurable, conventional-layout mag-fed flywheel blaster. 7 takedown pins are all that stands between you and being capable of swapping flywheel cages, magwells, stocks, and pusher mechanisms with no additional tools. Not only does this make adjusting the blaster for different game velocity caps trivial, it also makes it possible to swap configurations even between rounds of an event, and in some cases replace broken parts.”

Can this fire full length darts? Drake Muk asked on September 24, 2026

Drake,

The Protean is only half-length (short) darts. Sorry about that. But the shorter darts do generally get better performance. If you're set on full length darts, you can check out the Gryphon: https://www.frontlinefoam.com/product/gryphon/. It has a full-length dart option!

I’m worried about the overall build quality not just of the gun but also the quality of the 3-D printed parts. I’m afraid that it’s not going to be very strong. My Griffin was so poorly printed that it fell apart after two days after playing in a higher FPS game. MJ R asked on January 2, 2026

Good news is the Protean was indeed designed with overall greater strength in mind. It's parts assemble together such that there aren't any screws at key weak points. So overall, the Protean is a much beefer blaster than the Gryphon. It is a bit larger and bulkier though.
